An online multiplayer game is an which has multiple players playing against or with each other at the same real time world. Hence, someone staying in Thailand can possibly play with someone in Canada over a battling game but not really seeing them face to face. These players are joined together on a local server in which a webmaster is hosting on the server. These technology is made possible through the power of technology and computers in this new century that we are living in. Other online multiplayer games like World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, America’s Army and Counter Strike Force are just some of the software available for battling straight away. Evolution of Online Multiplayer Games. Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs as they are referred to) are earning big bucks monthly without anybody realizing it. Their popularity starts to hit north on sales in the late 1990’s with the introduction of Everquest and Ultima Online. These games are usually played online. First person shooters, also referred to at Quake, Unreal tournament, Counter Strike and Warcraft 3 are gaining popularity too. However, the latter group doesn’t runs on MMOG hence these are the games that can be played on the computer only. But it is an undeniable fact that

they are catching fast on consoles too. These programs are a hit for the console environment. Another games includes Final Fantasy X1 and Everquest online adventures on the console. Online gaming on telephone will be available soon and has started, but it has yet to make a mark Variations Of Massively Multiplayer Online Games Today there are many different styles of massively multiplayer games available, such as: (i) MMORPG (Massively multiplayer online role-playing games). (ii) MMORTS (Massively multiplayer online real-time strategy games). (iii) MMOFPS (Massively multiplayer online first-person shooter games). Among the three multiplayer, the massively multiplayer games are the games that are driving online multiplayer game market crazy. Lineage – a Korean MMORPG – has a subscriber base of four million registered users alone! World of Warcraft, has over six and a half million users registered. Bear in mind that these are subscribers who are happily paying money to them every month just to play the games for the fun of it. Now you can see how much online multiplayer game is reaping every month from their subscribers. Hats off to the creators of these games as they truly do deserves to earn these moneys due to their creativity and hard work.
