Pokemon Trading Cards

Pokemon trading cards surfaced in 1996 after Nintendo distributed games based on the Japanese program for Gameboy and the cartoon was featured by Warner Brothers. Each Pokemon has its own features and powers. Humans are Pokemon trainers. They capture Pokemon to become Pokemon Masters. Pokemon is short for Pocket Monster.

The Masters then use the Pokemon to dual against other masters. The match ends when a Pokemon faints. Pokemon captured the attention of young boys as the marketers predicted, but they were not prepared for the number of girls who became interested in the Pokemon mania.

The Pokemon trading cards involve a game of winning Pokemon by dualing each other. Children everywhere purchased cards in the hopes of having a more powerful deck than their opponent, thus winning that persons cards. The catch phrase of the game is “Pokemon, gotta catch em all”. banned the cards.

Each Pokemon card has a picture of the Pokemon creature, their special abilities and powers. Most decks come with a free chart to allow you to keep easy track of which cards you have and which ones you want to obtain. At one point, there was such a demand for Pokemon cards around the holidays that the only place to find them was online at sites such as Ebay. Parents who didn’t want disappointed children paid a premium price for decks of cards!

While parents haven’t given Pokemon cards or the cartoon the star of approval, most view it as a non violent fun trading game. The Pokemon never die as in some darker games such as Yugioh. Parents find that comforting.

If your child is interested in trading cards such as Pokemon, many are available for a low price online. Pokemon cards were mass produced because of the demand. As we all know, children eventually grow uninterested in a fad like this and move on to other things. I would suggest not paying too high of a price to obtain such cards and then to resell what you can once they have decided they are done with them.
