Welcome to submarines

Submarines

A submarine is a water craft device that is able to operate under the water surface for long periods of time. They are used by the Navy of the United States as well by other countries. Submarines are also used for research and science in areas of water that are too dangerous for divers to explore. The word submarine means “under the sea”.

The first type of submarine was developed in 1578. While the concept was a good one, the water craft just couldn’t hold up. It was make from wood and leather. The design was modified to include timber with leather covers and oars to maneuver the craft. This design emerged in 1620. However, all the ideas that went into making submarines proved fruitless until 1776. The design included a copper sheath.

During the Civil War the idea to create submarines for warfare was brought to the table. The use of them changed the course of the war, giving the North the upper hand over the South. It did not take long for the world to recognize the submarine as the ultimate war weapon. The early submarines often were destroyed themselves due to faulty designs. This included C02 poisoning, collisions, sinking, and bad fuels.

However, the courage and sacrifices of the individuals who gave their lives fighting for their country on these vessels was not in vain. From the losses and tragedies involving those early submarines we were able to design them to be strong and invincible. The improved submarine versions helped us tremendously during World War I and World War II.

Many of the United States submarines that have been retired can be explored at various submarine and Navy museums around the United States. This is a wonderful way to pay tribute and respect the history of these amazing vessels.

Tourist submarines are quite popular. They operate in various open waters surrounding the United States. These submarines provide services to over two million passengers every year. They have potholes for passengers to view the sea live around them. You can find out about tourist submarines on the internet. Booking an adventure on one is a wonderful way to explore the ocean and history.

Submarines have gone through many development stages since their implementation. These amazing vessels are mostly used for the Navy military operations. However, they are commonly used for research and tourism as well. They offer us the ability to explore ocean life that most of us would never have the opportunity to view otherwise.
